Sustainable Forestry Training for Youth in Oregon

Many tribal communities face significant barriers to accessing quality education and training in forestry, as evidenced by the Oregon Employment Department reporting lower participation rates in the industry among tribal populations.
Tribal youth often experience limited access to education programs tailored towards sustainable forestry practices, resulting in a disconnect from an industry crucial for their community's environmental and economic health. The absence of such specialized training leaves many young people unprepared for the job market in this essential sector, which values environmental stewardship while also generating significant economic activity in the state.
To counteract these challenges, the grant initiative seeks to establish sustainable forestry training programs targeted at Oregon's tribal youth. By incorporating both practical learning experiences and classroom instruction, these programs aim to provide students with the skills necessary for successful careers in forestry management.
